Install in a DRYWALL

Safety First!

  • Before you begin, turn off the power at the breaker box to the circuit where you’ll install the light fixture. Use a voltage tester to confirm the power is off at the wires you work with.

Preparing the Wall

  1. Mark the Installation Location: Use a stud finder to locate any studs behind the drywall where you want to install the light. Do not mount the light fixture directly onto a stud. Choose a clear location and mark the center point for the fixture.
  2. Cut the Hole: Using a drywall saw or a rotary tool with a drywall cutting attachment, carefully cut a hole in the drywall with the following dimensions:
    • Height: 167mm
    • Length: 49mm (This is likely a typo, typical fixture hole widths are closer to a square. Double-check your specific fixture’s requirements.) Tip: Use a template provided by the manufacturer or create one from cardboard to ensure a precise cut.

Connecting the Wires

  1. Identify the Wires: Most homes in North America use a color-coded wiring system: Black (hot), White (neutral), and Bare copper (ground). Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about your wiring.
  2. Prepare the Wires: Strip about ¼ inch (6mm) of insulation from the ends of each wire using wire strippers.
  3. Connect the Wires: Using approved wire connectors (such as wire nuts), securely connect the black wire from the fixture to the black wire from the existing electrical box. Do the same for the white wires and the bare copper ground wires. Twist the wires together tightly before inserting them into the wire connector and screw the connector closed.

Mounting the Fixture

  1. Feed the Wires Through the Hole: Carefully push the wires and the fixture base through the hole in the drywall.
  2. Secure the Fixture: Use the mounting hardware provided with the fixture (typically screws) to secure the fixture base to the electrical box. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.

Turn on the Power and Test

  1. Turn on the Power: Return to the breaker box and turn the power back on to the circuit.
  2. Test the Light: Turn on the light switch and confirm the fixture is working properly.

Enjoy.
